The Real Solution to the Property Tax Issue

The Pennsylvania Legislature passed a watered down version of a property tax relief bill earlier this year. Those who live on a budget understand that property taxes have risen dramatically and create a huge burden on Pennsylvanians. Many of those who are feeling the most drastic effects are senior citizens. Pennsylvania seniors have been forced to go back to work or use up their savings in order to cover their taxes. This is a deplorable turn of events.

Property tax reform needs to be revisited in Harrisburg. I fully support further debate and research, in the hopes of finding the best solution to alleviate the burden for all Pennsylvanians. I’ll admit that right now I don’t fully understand the complicated issue of property tax. I will carefully study and discuss the issue when I am elected. This is the kind of learning on the job that I am willing to do.

I firmly believe it is reckless to risk the future of our education system on an estimated $1 billion worth of revenue from gambling. We need more concrete sources of funding when we are dealing with such an important issue as the education of our children.

My plan is to listen to and then act in the best interest of the citizens of the 187th district. I envision that revisiting the issue of property tax in order to get further relief for homeowners is a large part of that plan. I will support a meaningful reduction of residential property school taxes. (BACK)
